Who It's For
A big house with cold corners will outwork a midsize stove every winter. You need the largest firebox you can get. The Forge & Flame Step Top 5700, featuring Quadra-Fire burn technology, is for the large home that heats with wood and wants the classic step-top look with the door and base of its choice. A smaller stove runs flat out; this one has room to spare.
What Makes It Special
It takes logs up to 22 inches and can burn up to 15 hours on a load, the longest of any step-top in the line.
Automatic Combustion Control handles startup, adding air for the first 20 minutes and then closing on its own. The glass is the largest in the step-top family, so the fire is on full view.
Pick an arched cast iron door in black or with satin nickel trim, and a pedestal or Queen Anne legs with ash removal, or traditional legs.
Possible Downsides
- A door and a base are required to complete it.
- The fan is sold separately.
- It is oversized for a small room; the Step Top 4300 is the smaller choice.
If you need the most wood heat a step-top stove can give, the Forge & Flame Step Top 5700 is the right decision. Even the room at the end of the hall is warm on the coldest night of the year.
Choose an arched black door or one with satin nickel trim; a pedestal, Queen Anne legs in black or satin nickel, or traditional legs; plus a 350 cfm fan kit, a satin nickel door upgrade, and an outside air kit.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much space will the Forge & Flame Step Top 5700 wood stove heat?
Plan on 1,800–3,600 sq ft, which suits a large home that heats with wood. It's the biggest stove in the step-top line, with a peak rating of 72,100 BTU per hour, 80% LHV or 74% HHV efficiency, and EPA-certified emissions of 1.8 grams per hour.
How long does a load burn in the Step Top 5700, and what log size fits?
Expect about 11–15 hours per load, the longest of any step-top in the line, with logs up to 22 inches. The glass is also the largest in the step-top family, at 187 sq in, so you get a full view of the fire.
What does Automatic Combustion Control do on the 5700?
It takes the guesswork out of startup. You push the activation knob, the timer feeds extra air to build the fire for about the first 20 minutes, and then it closes on its own while the burn rate control sets your heat. Setting the control to high overrides the timer.
Does the Step Top 5700 work in a mobile home?
In the US, yes; in Canada, no. US mobile home installs require the OAK-ACC outside air kit, grounding to the home's frame with #8 copper wire, listed double-wall connector pipe, a spark arrestor, and keeping the stove out of sleeping rooms.
What chimney does the Step Top 5700 need?
It has a 6-inch flue collar and needs a chimney with at least a 6-inch inside diameter, such as a UL 103 HT factory-built or masonry chimney, using single-wall or double-wall connector pipe. With double-wall pipe, it can sit in an alcove up to 48 inches deep.
How big a hearth pad does the Step Top 5700 need?
In the US, a non-combustible Type I floor protector must reach 16 inches in front of the glass and 8 inches past each side of the loading door, at least 33-5/8 by 44-7/8 inches for a flat-wall install; Canada requires 18 inches in front. With horizontal venting, it must also run under the flue pipe and 2 inches past each side.
Which door and base do I need to choose for the 5700?
Both are required. Pick an arched cast iron door in classic black or with satin nickel trim, then a pedestal or Queen Anne legs (black or satin nickel), both with the ash removal system, or traditional legs, which don't include it.
Do I need the fan kit for the Step Top 5700?
No, the 350 cfm fan kit is an optional extra that plugs in once installed. If you add it, a snap disc turns the blower on as the stove heats up and off as it cools, and a speed control lets you set it from low to high.
The Quadra-Fire Story
Quadra-Fire was founded by Alan Trusler and Dan Henry as Aladdin Steel Products near Colville, Washington, in 1978–79. Its Quad-Burn system, introduced in 1986, burns wood smoke in four zones without a catalytic combustor. HON Industries (now HNI) bought the company in 1998, and since 2023 Quadra-Fire stoves have been sold under the Forge & Flame name, with the original model names.
