Who It's For

A small stove leaves the far rooms cold, and a huge one cooks the room it sits in. You need a mid-size wood stove that heats a typical home all evening. The Forge & Flame WP-200 is for the family that burns wood as everyday heat in an average-size house. Undersize it and you reload constantly; choose this one and a load carries you well into the night.

What Makes It Special

Its 1.89 cubic foot firebox takes logs up to 16 inches and can run up to 10 hours on a load, long enough that the house is not cold when you get up.

Heavy-gauge steel and a cast iron door give it the strength for daily use. A quick-start design and a two-lever air control make the fire easy to start and easy to settle.

It is rated to heat up to 2,600 square feet.

Possible Downsides

If you heat with wood every day in an average-size home, the Forge & Flame WP-200 is the right decision. You load it before bed and wake to a warm kitchen.

It comes in a single configuration, black steel with a cast iron door.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big a home can the Forge & Flame WP-200 heat?

The Forge & Flame WP-200 is rated to heat 1,300–2,600 sq ft, which suits an average-size house that burns wood as everyday heat. It comes in one configuration, heavy-gauge black steel with a cast iron door, so there are no finish or trim choices to make.

How long does a load of wood last in the WP-200, and how long can the logs be?

Expect approximately 7–10 hours from a load in the WP-200's 1.89 cubic foot firebox, which takes logs up to 16 inches of seasoned cordwood at about 20% moisture. If you want longer burns, the WP-300 in the same line has a 2.26 cubic foot firebox and takes 18-inch logs.

How do the two air levers on the WP-200 work?

One lever is the Burn Rate Air Control and the other is the Smart Air Control timer. You open both to light the fire, and the timer then closes the front air channel gradually over about 25 minutes, so the stove settles to your chosen burn rate without you coming back to turn it down.

What chimney setup does the WP-200 need?

The WP-200 uses a 6-inch single-wall or double-wall connector joined to a listed UL103HT Class A chimney or a masonry chimney. It can vent straight up or turn 90 degrees off the top and go through the back wall, but it can't be installed inside a factory-built fireplace.

Is the WP-200 approved for a mobile home?

Yes, as long as it isn't installed in a sleeping room. A mobile home install needs the OAK-ACC outside air kit, which is optional in a site-built house, plus double-wall connector pipe with a spark arrestor and a ground to the home's frame with #8 copper wire.

What floor protection and wall space does the WP-200 need?

It needs a non-combustible floor protector reaching at least 16 inches in front of the glass and 8 inches to each side of the loading door. The WP-200 is also listed for an alcove up to 48 inches deep with double-wall pipe, and leaving 19 inches open on the right side lets you remove the air tubes without moving the stove.

Is the WP-200 EPA certified?

Yes. The WP-200 has a 78% efficiency rating and is certified to the EPA's 2020 particulate standard at 1.9 grams per hour. To keep emissions where they were tested, build the fire directly on the brick floor, since the manual says grates and andirons hurt emissions.

What regular maintenance does the WP-200 need?

Have the chimney checked for creosote every two months of the burn season, confirm the baffle and ceramic blanket are seated monthly, and inspect the firebrick, door gasket, and latch weekly or every 25 loads. Empty the ashes once they're within 1-3/4 inches of the firebox lip.

The WoodPro Story

WoodPro is the value wood stove line from Hearth & Home Technologies, the company behind Quadra-Fire and Vermont Castings. It dates to about 2014. The FF-WP-100, 200, and 300 meet the EPA's 2020 emission limits and are sold as Forge & Flame's W series, through dealers and farm and home stores.
