Privacy Policy
The plain-English version
We ask for your postal code and project details so we can show you what's actually available near you. If you request a Project Guide or ask to be connected with a dealer, we share your contact information and project details with that local dealer—that's the whole point of the service. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads against it, and no manufacturer pays for your information.
Who we are
Find My Fireplace ("we," "us") is a free resource operated by WhyFire, LLC, that helps homeowners find fireplaces, stoves, and inserts genuinely available from dealers near them. Questions about this policy? Contact us.
What we collect
- Project details you give us: postal code, your situation (open fireplace, new construction, etc.), fuel preference, and measurements or venting details if you use the configurator.
- Contact details you give us: name, email address, phone number, and your home address—only if you request a Project Guide & Parts List or ask to be connected with a dealer. Your address is what lets a dealer understand the project before they call.
- Technical basics: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) and our own first-party usage analysis—we keep records of estimate requests (general location, fuel, and products viewed) to understand demand. No third-party analytics service receives your data.
How we use it
- To show you availability, guidance, and estimates matched to your area.
- To create and email your free Project Guide & Parts List.
- To connect you with a trusted local dealer to help with your project.
- To understand demand: we keep estimate-request records (location, fuel, products viewed) for our own analysis.
- We do not send marketing email. If that ever changes, it will be strictly opt-in.
- To improve the site—aggregate, de-identified usage only.
Who we share it with
When you ask to be connected, we share your contact information and project details with the local hearth dealer matched to your request so they can follow up. That dealer becomes responsible for the information under their own privacy practices.
We also use service providers to run the site—website hosting, databases, and message delivery—who process data on our behalf and can't use it for anything else.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with manufacturers or advertisers.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to make the site work. No advertising, cross-site tracking, or third-party analytics cookies.
Your choices & rights
- You can browse everything on this site without giving us any contact information.
- Use our contact form to ask what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. We'll respond within 30 days.
- Residents of California, Colorado, Virginia, and other states with privacy laws have additional rights (access, deletion, portability, non-discrimination)—the same email exercises all of them.
- To stop dealer follow-ups, tell the dealer directly or contact us and we'll pass it along.
Data retention & security
We keep lead information as long as needed to service your request and our records, then delete or de-identify it. Data is stored with reputable U.S. cloud providers using encryption in transit and at rest.
Visitors in Canada
The same commitments apply under PIPEDA: we collect only what the service needs, we share it only with your matched dealer, and you can access, correct, or delete your information through our contact form. Pages serving Canadian provinces use postal codes and follow provincial requirements as they come online.
Children
This site is for adults planning home projects. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on this page.
