Who It's For
In a larger home, a midsize stove runs flat out and still loses the battle with the far rooms. You need the bigger firebox. The Forge & Flame Discovery III, featuring Quadra-Fire burn technology, is for the large living space where wood is the main heat and the owner still wants to choose the look. Too small a stove means constant reloading; this one carries the evening and the night.
What Makes It Special
Its firebox takes logs up to 18 inches and can burn up to 12 hours on a load.
Automatic Combustion Control lets in extra air at startup and closes on its own after about 20 minutes, so the fire settles into a long, efficient burn without you.
The sides take any 12 by 12 inch ceramic tile, or use the solid side panel. A wood bin is built into the pedestal, and the cast iron door has satin nickel hinge pins.
Possible Downsides
- The fan is a separate kit.
- It is more stove than a small room needs; the Discovery I suits smaller spaces.
If you heat a large space with wood and want a stove that looks like yours, the Forge & Flame Discovery III is the right decision. You add a log at bedtime and the coals are still glowing at sunrise.
Add the 160 cfm fan kit or an outside air kit.

Frequently Asked Questions
How large a space can the Forge & Flame Discovery III heat?
The Forge & Flame Discovery III, featuring Quadra-Fire burn technology, heats about 1,550–3,100 square feet. It's the biggest stove in the Discovery series, built for a large living space where wood is the main heat. For a smaller room, the Discovery I is the better size.
How long does a load of wood last in the Discovery III?
Expect about 8–12 hours per load. Its 2.26 cubic foot firebox takes logs up to 18 inches long, so you can add a log at bedtime and still find glowing coals at sunrise.
What is Automatic Combustion Control on the Discovery III?
It's a timed start-up air system. You push the activation knob back and pull it forward, and the ACC timer holds the start-up air inlet open for about 20 minutes before closing on its own. A separate burn rate control sets the airflow for your comfort level after that.
How efficient and clean is the Discovery III?
It carries an 80% certified efficiency rating and is certified to the 2020 EPA wood heater standard at 1.6 grams per hour. Quadra-Fire's Four-Point Burn System burns the fire in stages, including a final zone above the baffle, before exhaust leaves the chimney.
Can I customize how the Discovery III looks?
Yes. Each side holds three nominal 12 by 12 inch noncombustible tiles, sized 11-11/16 to 11-7/8 inches square and no more than 5/16 inch thick, or you can repaint the solid side panels with 300°F high-temp paint. A wood storage bin is built into the pedestal, and the cast iron door has satin nickel hinge pins.
Does the Discovery III come with a blower?
No, the blower is a separate 160 CFM fan kit that helps spread warmth through the room. The only other listed add-on is an ACC outside air kit.
Is the Discovery III approved for mobile homes and alcoves?
Yes to both. A mobile home install needs the OAK-ACC outside air kit, a #8 copper ground wire to the frame, listed double-wall connector pipe with a spark arrestor, and no sleeping-room placement. In an alcove, you must use 6-inch double-wall connector pipe, and the alcove can be no more than 48 inches deep.
What size hearth pad does the Discovery III need?
In the US, the non-combustible floor protector must extend at least 16 inches in front of the glass and 8 inches to each side of the loading door, and the brochure lists a 31-5/8 by 41 inch minimum. Canada requires 18 inches in front.
The Quadra-Fire Story
Quadra-Fire was founded by Alan Trusler and Dan Henry as Aladdin Steel Products near Colville, Washington, in 1978–79. Its Quad-Burn system, introduced in 1986, burns wood smoke in four zones without a catalytic combustor. HON Industries (now HNI) bought the company in 1998, and since 2023 Quadra-Fire stoves have been sold under the Forge & Flame name, with the original model names.
