Who It's For

A home with an open floor plan or a second story needs more than a small stove can give. Heat should reach the rooms you live in. You need a stove with real output that still runs itself. For a medium to large home, the Forge & Flame Pathfinder P61, powered by Harman technology, steps up. Choose it and the heat reaches well past the room it sits in.

What Makes It Special

Harman rates it to heat 1,300 to 3,500 square feet; in most homes, expect 1,500–3,050 sq ft, depending on climate and layout. That’s enough for one stove to carry an open main floor.

Automatic ignition and a room sensor run the fire for you. The 72 lb hopper extends to 132 lb, the door is cast iron, and the mirrored glass keeps it tidy-looking when off. Trim kits with slate or stainless tiles personalize the front.

Possible Downsides

If you want one pellet stove to heat a medium to large home, the Forge & Flame Pathfinder P61 is the right decision. The whole main floor stays comfortable from one stove.

Choose a Leaf Design or Modern trim kit with slate or stainless tiles, air grille trim, a 22 5/8-inch hopper extension, a ceramic log, a heat shield, an outside air venting kit, or a cast iron hearth pad.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much of my house can the Forge & Flame Pathfinder P61 heat?

In most homes, expect the Forge & Flame Pathfinder P61 to heat 1,500–3,050 square feet, depending on climate and layout. That's more than the smaller P43, while the P68 has more output for the largest homes. It's EPA certified at 1.5 grams per hour with 85% LHV efficiency.

How many pellets does the P61 hold?

The standard hopper holds 72 pounds. An optional hopper extension kit, 22-5/8 inches tall and sold separately, raises capacity to 132 pounds, so you can go longer between fills.

Does the P61 control the room temperature by itself?

Yes. In Room Temp mode, a room sensing probe tells the stove when to light, how big a fire to keep, and when to shut down, and it relights automatically when the room cools. Constant Burn mode instead holds a steady output regardless of room temperature.

Will the P61 work without electricity?

No. Its blowers and controls need household power, and in an outage the combustion blower stops, so smoke can leak into the room. The manual recommends an approved UPS (TrippLite INTERNET750U) for a safe shutdown, or an approved inverter/charger on a 12-volt deep-cycle battery that can run the stove for up to eight hours.

What vent pipe and outside air does the P61 need?

It uses 3-inch PL pellet vent. Outside air is recommended for every installation and runs through 3-inch non-combustible flex pipe to a termination cap, or through an optional direct vent wall pass-through kit that combines exhaust and intake in one part.

How close to the wall can the P61 sit, and can it go in a mobile home?

It needs 2 inches behind it and 12 inches at the sides with the optional side heat shields, or 18 inches without them. It's approved for mobile homes, but never in a sleeping room, and only when bolted to the floor, fitted with a Forge & Flame outside air kit, and grounded to the frame with 8 AWG copper wire.

What floor protection goes under the P61?

You need a non-combustible floor or protector reaching 6 inches past the front and sides of the door opening and 6 inches behind the base, at least 25-1/8 by 27-3/4 inches. No R-value is required, so 20-gauge sheet metal, tile, stone, or brick works, as does the optional Harman Protect cast iron hearth pad.

How can I customize the look of the P61?

It comes with a cast iron door and mirrored glass. You can add a Leaf Design or Modern trim kit in brushed stainless with Deer or Trail Riders slate tiles or a stainless Deer plate, plus an air grille trim, a ceramic log set, and side heat shields in black or black with a brushed stainless inlay.

The Harman Story

Harman was founded by Dane Harman, a welder, who built his first stove in 1978 and started Harman Stove and Welding beside his home in Halifax, Pennsylvania, in 1979. Its pellet stoves grew out of a patented coal stoker, with a bottom-feed burn pot that pushes ash out and a probe that feeds by temperature. Hearth & Home Technologies bought Harman in 2007, and since 2023 its stoves have been sold under the Forge & Flame name, “Powered by Harman Technology.”
