Who It's For
Smaller homes deserve real heat, but a big stove takes over the room. The stove should fit the space and still do the job. You need a compact stove that runs on its own once you set it. If you are heating a smaller home or a main living area, the Forge & Flame Pathfinder P43, powered by Harman technology, is the one to consider. Choose it and you stop thinking about the heat at all.
What Makes It Special
It lights itself and reads the room with a sensor, so it adds fire when the room cools and eases off when it warms. You set the temperature and leave it.
The door is cast iron, and the mirrored glass looks sleek when the stove is off. The 50 lb hopper can grow to 105 lb with the optional extension, and trim kits with slate or stainless tiles let you dress it up.
Possible Downsides
- Tiles need a trim kit to install.
- The hopper extension is an extra.
- It is the smallest Pathfinder. For more heat, look at the Pathfinder P61.
If you want a compact pellet stove that runs itself, the Forge & Flame Pathfinder P43 is the right decision. The room stays at your number while you get on with your day.
Choose a Leaf Design or Modern trim kit with slate or stainless tiles, an air grille trim, a 21-inch hopper extension, a ceramic log, a heat shield, or a cast iron hearth pad.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much space does the Forge & Flame Pathfinder P43 heat?
The Forge & Flame Pathfinder P43 is rated to heat 1,150–2,250 sq ft, which suits a smaller home or a main living area. It's built on Harman technology, listed in its manual as the Harman P43-C, and it's the smallest Pathfinder, so look at the Pathfinder P61 if you need more heat.
How does the room sensor on the Pathfinder P43 work?
In Room Temp mode, a Room Sensing Probe controls the fire: the P43 lights itself when the room calls for heat, levels off as it nears your setting, and can let the fire go out and re-ignite automatically. Constant Burn mode instead holds one steady output no matter the room temperature.
How big is the P43's hopper, and what pellets should I burn?
The standard hopper holds 50 lb, and the optional 21-inch hopper extension takes it to 105 lb. The P43 is approved for wood pellets only, and the manual warns that pellets longer than 1-1/2 inches can cause inconsistent feeding and ignition.
Will the P43 run during a power outage?
Not on house power alone, because its combustion blower stops and exhaust can seep into the room. The approved TrippLite INTERNET750U UPS gives a safe shutdown, and an approved inverter/charger on a 12-volt deep-cycle battery can run the P43 for up to eight hours. A vent with three to five feet of vertical rise also helps natural draft.
What venting does the P43 use, and how close to the wall can it sit?
The P43 uses 3-inch pellet vent, and with the preferred setup, a vertical section rising three to five feet behind the stove, it can sit just 2 inches from the wall. The manual notes that 4 inches gives you easier access to remove the rear panel.
What side clearances and floor protection does the P43 need?
Allow 10 inches to a side wall with the optional side heat shields or 16 inches without, and 9 inches in a corner either way. The P43 needs a non-combustible floor protector at least 25-7/16 inches wide by 26-3/4 inches deep, with no R-value required, and 20-gauge sheet metal is the minimum material.
Can the Pathfinder P43 go in a mobile home?
Yes, as long as it isn't in a sleeping room. A mobile home install must bolt the P43 to the floor, connect it to the approved outside air kit, use listed PL vent pipe, and ground it to the home's frame with at least 8 AWG copper wire.
What trim and accessory options are there for the P43?
The P43 has a cast iron door with mirrored glass, and you can add a Leaf Design or Modern trim kit in brushed stainless, 12 x 6 inch slate or stainless tiles, an air grille trim, black or black-and-stainless side heat shields, a ceramic log set, and a Harman Protect cast iron hearth pad. Tiles need a trim kit to install.
The Harman Story
Harman was founded by Dane Harman, a welder, who built his first stove in 1978 and started Harman Stove and Welding beside his home in Halifax, Pennsylvania, in 1979. Its pellet stoves grew out of a patented coal stoker, with a bottom-feed burn pot that pushes ash out and a probe that feeds by temperature. Hearth & Home Technologies bought Harman in 2007, and since 2023 its stoves have been sold under the Forge & Flame name, “Powered by Harman Technology.”
