Who It's For
A good pellet stove is only as convenient as its hopper. Refills should be rare. You need an efficient stove that carries a lot of fuel. If you are replacing an old pellet stove or switching from wood and want fewer trips with the bag, the Forge & Flame Outfitter II, featuring Quadra-Fire burn technology, fits. Choose it and long winters get a lot easier.
What Makes It Special
Its hopper holds 130 lb of pellets, about twice what most stoves carry, so it burns for long stretches between fills.
It is also efficient, at 82% on the higher heating value. A top-feed auger, a removable ash pan, and a digital wall thermostat keep daily use simple. It covers roughly 1,300 to 2,300 square feet.
Possible Downsides
- There is no log set option.
- A remote costs extra.
If you want efficient pellet heat with the fewest refills in a simple stove, the Forge & Flame Outfitter II is the right decision. You fill it, forget it, and the house stays warm for days.
Add a remote control, an outside air kit, a flue adapter, or rear and top vent adapters.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much space does the Forge & Flame Outfitter II heat?
The Outfitter II heats roughly 1,300–2,300 sq ft, with a peak input of 49,200 BTU per hour. It's 82% efficient on the higher heating value and EPA certified at 0.53 g/hr, meeting the 2020 particulate standard.
How does the Outfitter II compare with the Outfitter I?
The Outfitter II is the bigger of the two. Its 130 lb hopper is more than double the Outfitter I's 60 lb, and it's rated for 1,300–2,300 sq ft versus 700–1,400 sq ft. It's also more efficient, at 82% HHV compared with 75%.
How do I set the temperature on the Outfitter II?
It comes standard with a dial control offering five heat settings plus a digital wired wall thermostat, which connects to a terminal block on the back of the stove. A handheld Smart-Stat remote is optional and costs extra. A small trim dial adjusts the air-to-fuel ratio for your fuel and venting.
What venting does the Outfitter II need?
It uses 3-inch or 4-inch Type L or PL pellet vent from a 3-inch rear exhaust outlet. Optional adapters let you go straight out the back with a clean-out, turn the vent up through the top, or step up from 3 to 4 inches, and an outside air kit is available.
How close to the walls can the Outfitter II be installed?
It needs just 3 inches from the back wall and 9 inches from a side wall, or 3 inches to the walls in a corner install. The minimum floor protector is 27 inches wide by 30-1/8 inches deep, extending 6 inches in front of the glass door.
Can the Outfitter II be installed in a mobile home?
Yes, it's approved for mobile homes as long as it's not in a sleeping room. An outside air kit (part 811-0872 or OAK-3) must be installed, the stove must be secured to the home's structure, and it must be grounded to the frame with #8 copper wire.
How often does the Outfitter II need cleaning?
Clean the firepot daily or every 3 bags, and remove firebox ash weekly or every 5 bags using the removable ash pans. The hopper, exhaust path, and convection blower need attention monthly or every 25 bags, and the venting yearly or every 3 tons. A built-in firepot burn-down cycle helps clear debris between cleanings.
Does the Outfitter II come with a blower, and does it need power?
Yes, a convection blower is included. It turns on automatically once the stove is hot and keeps running after shutdown until the exhaust cools. The stove plugs into a grounded 3-prong, 120-volt outlet and draws 2.3 amps while running.
The Quadra-Fire Story
Quadra-Fire was founded by Alan Trusler and Dan Henry as Aladdin Steel Products near Colville, Washington, in 1978–79. Its Quad-Burn system, introduced in 1986, burns wood smoke in four zones without a catalytic combustor. HON Industries (now HNI) bought the company in 1998, and since 2023 Quadra-Fire stoves have been sold under the Forge & Flame name, with the original model names.
