Who It's For
You want to cut the heating bill, but a big, feature-packed stove is more than the room needs. Heat should match the space. You need a simple, efficient pellet stove sized for a smaller home or a single area. If that is you, the Forge & Flame Outfitter I, featuring Quadra-Fire burn technology, is a sensible pick. Choose it and you get steady heat without paying for capacity you will not use.
What Makes It Special
It is rated for roughly 700 to 1,400 square feet, right for a cabin, a smaller house, or a basement family room.
A top-feed auger drops pellets into the fire, a removable ash pan makes cleanup quick, and a digital wall thermostat holds your setting. The 60 lb hopper covers a day or more of steady burning.
Possible Downsides
- There is no log set for it.
- The remote is extra.
- Its 60 lb hopper is half the Outfitter II’s. For longer burns, look at the Outfitter II.
If you want straightforward pellet heat for a smaller space, the Forge & Flame Outfitter I is the right decision. The coldest room in the house becomes a comfortable one.
Add an outside air kit, a remote control, or a top vent adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much space can the Forge & Flame Outfitter I pellet stove heat?
It's rated for about 700–1,400 sq ft, which suits a cabin, a smaller house, or a basement family room. Efficiency is 75% on the higher heating value scale, and it's EPA certified at 0.7 grams per hour under the 2020 emission standards.
How long will a full hopper last in the Outfitter I?
The 60 lb hopper covers a day or more of steady burning. That's less than half the 130 lb hopper on the Outfitter II, so if you'd rather fill less often or need longer burns, the Outfitter II is the step up.
What controls come with the Outfitter I?
It comes with a dial control that has five heat settings plus a wired digital wall thermostat, and the Smart-Stat handheld remote is optional. The stove lights itself and only starts when your target temperature is above the room temperature.
Does the Outfitter I need electricity to run?
Yes. It plugs into a grounded 120-volt outlet to power the igniter, top-feed auger, and blowers, drawing 2.6 amps at startup and 0.9 amps while running. The convection blower keeps running after shutdown until the exhaust cools.
Is the Outfitter I approved for mobile home use?
Yes, it's approved for mobile homes when it isn't in a sleeping room. You'll need to add the outside air kit, which the manual requires for mobile homes, plus listed double-wall connector pipe, #8 copper wire grounding it to the home's frame, and a secure fastening to the structure.
What venting does the Outfitter I use?
It vents with 3-inch or 4-inch type L or PL pellet pipe from a rear exhaust. For a vertical run, the optional top vent adapter adds a clean-out, and a horizontal adapter with clean-out is also available for straight-back installs.
How close can I put the Outfitter I to a wall?
With horizontal venting, the manual lists 2 inches from the back wall, 3 inches to the flue pipe, and 13 inches from a side wall. The non-combustible floor protector must reach 6 inches in front of the glass door, and the brochure gives a minimum size of 25 by 28-7/8 inches.
How often do I need to clean the Outfitter I?
Clean the firepot about every 3 bags of fuel and remove ash from the firebox every 5 bags, using the removable left and right ash pans. Every 25 bags, clean the hopper, exhaust path, and convection blower, and have the venting cleaned every 3 tons or sooner with high-ash fuel.
The Quadra-Fire Story
Quadra-Fire was founded by Alan Trusler and Dan Henry as Aladdin Steel Products near Colville, Washington, in 1978–79. Its Quad-Burn system, introduced in 1986, burns wood smoke in four zones without a catalytic combustor. HON Industries (now HNI) bought the company in 1998, and since 2023 Quadra-Fire stoves have been sold under the Forge & Flame name, with the original model names.
