Who It's For
When the power goes out in winter, a stove that only heats leaves you cold-handed at dinnertime. You need a stove that heats the house and lets you cook on it when you have to. If your home is up to about 2,000 square feet and you want traditional cast iron with a place to cook, the Alderlea T5 is the one. Choose a plain stove and you have heat but nowhere to put the pot.
What Makes It Special
Lift the top and there is a concealed cooktop that fits a 6 x 13-inch pan, with swing-out shelves to keep food warm. It burns with no electricity, so soup on the stove during an outage is a real option, not a camping trip.
Underneath, the T5 is a steel stove wrapped in cast iron. The steel firebox floats inside so it can expand and contract freely, while the cast iron soaks up heat and gives it back to the room the way the sun warms your face. Pacific Energy backs that construction with a limited lifetime warranty.
Logs load straight in, front to back, a full load runs approx. 7–10 hours, the ash disposal system comes standard, and it fits close wall clearances without heat shields.
Possible Downsides
- The blower is optional, not included. Without it, the stove heats by radiation alone.
If you want a cast iron stove that heats an average home and doubles as a place to cook, the Alderlea T5 is the right decision. On the coldest night of the year, the house is warm and there is something hot on the stove.
The Alderlea T5 comes in black cast iron, with an optional blower.

The Pacific Energy Story
Pacific Energy Fireplace Products was founded in 1978 by Paul Erickson in Duncan, British Columbia. It's best known for steel and cast-iron wood stoves, many finished in porcelain enamel from its own plant, and it also builds wood fireplaces, gas fireplaces, and gas stoves. The same company makes Town & Country gas fireplaces, True North, and Elegant Electric. Sweden's NIBE group became the majority owner in 2022, and NIBE's 2023 annual report lists the company as wholly owned.
