Who It's For
If there is no fireplace in the house, an insert has nothing to slide into, and a freestanding stove takes up floor space you would rather keep. You need a wood fireplace that builds into the wall itself. If you are building or remodeling and want a real wood fire that heats a small to medium home of up to 1,500 square feet, the FP16 is the compact one of the built-in line. Like any built-in, it is framed into the wall and finished with tile or stone around it—what you see in the room is only part of the job.
What Makes It Special
The FP16 is a wood fireplace built for a framed wall, with a heavy steel firebox that floats inside its housing so it can expand and contract without stress. A large cast iron door and oversize glass keep the fire front and center.
Two temperature-activated blowers come standard and push the heat out into the room. One lever controls the burn, and an air-wash system keeps the glass clean.
Possible Downsides
- No option to send heat to other rooms. The powered heat distribution kit is offered on the FP25 and FP30 only.
- Rated 63% efficient, the lowest of the three built-in wood fireplaces. The FP25 is rated 67% and the FP30 69%.
If you want a real wood fire in a home that has no fireplace to work with, the FP16 is the right decision. The new room gets a fire that actually heats it, set into the wall like it was always there.
The FP16 comes in a contemporary face or the arched FP16 Arch, with surround trim in Stainless Steel or Metallic Black.

The Pacific Energy Story
Pacific Energy Fireplace Products was founded in 1978 by Paul Erickson in Duncan, British Columbia. It's best known for steel and cast-iron wood stoves, many finished in porcelain enamel from its own plant, and it also builds wood fireplaces, gas fireplaces, and gas stoves. The same company makes Town & Country gas fireplaces, True North, and Elegant Electric. Sweden's NIBE group became the majority owner in 2022, and NIBE's 2023 annual report lists the company as wholly owned.
