Who It's For
Most built-in fireplaces arrive as a box that still needs a front, a log set, and panels before it can be finished. You want a traditional log fireplace for a living room or family room without assembling a parts list. If that is your project, the Kozy Heat SP41 ships ready: logs and safety screen included, no required add-ons. Everything else is your choice, not your obligation.
What Makes It Special
The log set and the safety screen come in the box, with nothing else required to finish the install. Decorative overlays, glass panels, and trim are there if you want them.
Choose the electronic-ignition model, which lights only when you turn it on and includes a remote and a fan, or the standing-pilot model, which runs with no electricity, so it keeps heating through a power outage.
It carries heat into a living room or family room and the space around it, and it is approved for bedroom installs.
Possible Downsides
- Fan and remote depend on the version. The electronic-ignition model includes both; the standing-pilot model includes neither.
- One look. Traditional logs are the only media; for glass media, see the Bayport 36.
- The standing-pilot model burns a small flame around the clock unless you shut it off for the season.
If you want a traditional fireplace that is complete the day it arrives, the SP41 is the right decision. The fireplace is finished, and the room gets its evenings back.
Choose a prairie or arched prairie design overlay, black glass firebox panels, a finish trim kit, and, for the standing-pilot model, a fan, remote, wall switch, or thermostat.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of my home can the Kozy Heat SP41 heat?
The SP41 is rated to heat about 700–1,400 sq ft, enough for a living room or family room and the space around it. It burns up to 28,000 BTU/h on natural gas or propane and turns down to 20,000 BTU/h on natural gas and 21,000 BTU/h on propane. Kozy Heat lists its EnerGuide (P.4) efficiency at 74.05% on natural gas and 74.55% on propane, and it's approved for bedrooms.
What comes with the SP41, and what do I have to buy separately?
Beyond the vent pipe and gas line, nothing else is required: Its six-piece log set and standard safety screen are included, with the screen preinstalled, so there's no front or media to buy. Optional extras are a prairie or arched prairie overlay that fits over the screen, black glass firebox panels, and a finish trim kit. The upper hood has to be installed.
Does the SP41 come with a remote and a fan?
The electronic-ignition SP41-L does: It includes a Proflame 2 remote with a built-in room thermostat and six flame levels, and its fan kit is standard. The standing-pilot SP41-MV is run by an on/off rocker switch and a HI/LO knob on the gas valve. For the MV, the 75 CFM fan, on/off and thermostat remotes, wall switches, and wall thermostats are optional.
Will the SP41 work if the power goes out?
Yes, but the fan won't run on either version. The millivolt SP41-MV doesn't need 120-volt power to operate, though its optional fan does. The SP41-L runs on 120 volts and can switch to its battery backup pack in an outage, which keeps the burner and flame-height adjustment working while the fan and accent light stay off.
How is the SP41 vented, and how far can the vent run?
The SP41 uses 4″ x 6-5/8″ co-axial direct-vent pipe through the roof or a wall. A vertical run can be 3 to 50 feet. Horizontal limits depend on the rise: With no rise the horizontal pipe can be only 24″ long, while a 24″ rise allows 16 feet and a 25-foot rise allows 25 feet, for 50 feet total and no more than five 90° elbows. Kozy Heat's #700-2 flexible kit is approved for horizontal terminations.
Can the SP41 use an existing chimney for venting?
Yes. An approved kit lets it run a 4″ aluminum flex liner inside an existing Class A metal or masonry chimney of at least 7″ inside diameter, or convert to a co-linear system with 3″ x 3″ flex pipe, with 10 to 50 feet of liner either way. The chimney has to be inspected and sound first, and it can't also serve a wood-burning appliance.
Can the SP41 burn propane?
Yes, with a certified conversion kit, since it leaves the factory set up for natural gas: LCK-SP41L-S30 for the electronic-ignition SP41-L or OCK-S55A for the standing-pilot SP41-MV. The SP41-L also needs the propane valve stepper motor (700-503-1), which is sold separately. Its maximum input is the same 28,000 BTU/h on propane, with a 21,000 BTU/h minimum.
Is the SP41 approved for a mobile home?
Yes, where local codes don't prohibit it. The manual allows installation in an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home (marked USA only) or mobile home. Set it on a level surface on wood or a noncombustible floor, or on a metal or wood panel the full width and depth of the unit if the floor is carpet, tile, or other combustible material.
How much space does the SP41 need, and how close can a mantel or TV be?
The framed enclosure must be at least 47-1/4″ tall, 41″ wide, and 15-1/2″ deep, with 0″ to the standoffs, 1/4″ at the corners, 36″ clear in front, and 4-1/2″ to a side wall. Combustible 3/4″ trim can start 37-1/8″ above the enclosure floor and a 6″ mantel at 40-1/2″, with 1″ more depth allowed for each additional 1″ of height. The manual sets no TV clearance; it recommends a mantel to deflect heat and makes TV placement the homeowner's responsibility.
