Who It's For
Most traditional fireplaces are close to square, which fills the wall and leaves little room for anything above it. You want a classic log fire in a wider, lower shape that sits comfortably under a mantel or a TV. If that is the look for your living room, the Kozy Heat Bellingham 38 is built for it. A square firebox dominates the wall; this one lets the wall breathe.
What Makes It Special
The Bellingham 38 puts a log fire behind more than 38 inches of landscape glass, with a top light and an ember-bed light inside and an inside-fit safety screen across the front.
Two fans and a full-function remote come standard, and the burner turns down to a low glow when you want ambiance more than heat. On high, it warms a large living room and the rooms that open onto it.
An optional heat-management kit routes warm air out through grilles, which Kozy Heat says lets you hang a TV above the fireplace. Optional heat transfer kits can carry warmth to another room.
Possible Downsides
- Firebox panels are a separate, required choice.
- It ships set up for natural gas. Running it on propane takes an add-on valve motor.
If you want a traditional fire that sits low and wide on the wall, the Bellingham 38 is the right decision. The living room gets a fire and a wall that still has room for everything else.
Choose traditional or birch logs; Chicago brick, herringbone, ledgestone, or black glass firebox panels; a one-piece black rectangle surround; and optional heat-management and heat transfer kits.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of my home can the Kozy Heat Bellingham 38 heat?
The Bellingham 38 is sized for about 1,100–2,200 sq ft. The manual rates it at 43,500 Btu/h maximum input on either natural gas or propane, and it turns down to 17,000 Btu/h on natural gas (16,500 Btu/h on propane). The brochure lists its EnerGuide (P.4) efficiency at 67.43% on natural gas and 66.65% on propane. How much space it actually warms depends on your floor plan, insulation, and climate.
Will the Bellingham 38 work during a power outage?
Yes—the burner keeps running on a battery backup, but the fan and lights don't. The fireplace normally needs a 120-volt circuit that's always hot, and the control module holds four AA batteries (not included) for outages. On battery power the manual says the backup operates the burner only, so the fan, the top light, and the ember-bed light stay off until power returns.
How is the Bellingham 38 vented?
It's a direct vent fireplace built for 5" x 8" co-axial pipe, and an approved reducer can step it down to 4" x 6-5/8". Vertical runs go from 3 ft up to 50 ft, and horizontal installs allow up to 25 ft of rise plus 25 ft of horizontal run. The manual also approves the optional Kozy Power Vent (horizontal terminations only) and two ways to use an existing chimney: 4" aluminum flex in a Class A or masonry chimney of at least 7" ID, or 3" x 3" co-linear flex in a masonry chimney of at least 6" x 8" ID or a 7" ID Class A chimney.
Can I run the Bellingham 38 on propane?
Yes, but it ships set up for natural gas, so propane takes the #LCK-BH38-SPB propane conversion kit, which is sold separately. Kozy Heat's option list shows this as a propane valve step motor kit. It's easier to convert before the fireplace is framed in, because converting afterward means pulling the control board. Maximum input is the same 43,500 Btu/h on propane.
Can I mount a TV above the Bellingham 38?
Yes, with the right wall design. In Kozy Heat's tests, TV surface temperatures didn't exceed 150°F when a 4-1/4" deep recess was built above the fireplace, though the manual leaves TV placement as the homeowner's responsibility. For more heat reduction, the optional vented cavity or Komfort Zone Kit setups allow combustible facing above the fireplace, cooler TV placement, and lower mantel clearances.
What clearances and framing does the Bellingham 38 need?
The minimum rough opening is 51-5/8" wide, 43-1/4" high, and 22" deep, inside an enclosure at least 88" tall. Clearance to combustibles is 0" at the stand-offs, 2" at the corners, and 36" in front. In a standard install, 3/4" mantel trim can start 12" above the top finishing edge and a 6" deep mantel at 15-1/2", rising 1" for each extra inch of depth. Floor protection in front isn't required, and the manual approves it for outdoor covered installs operated between 40°F and 110°F.
What do I need to order with the Bellingham 38, and what's included?
You must choose a firebox panel set—the manual says refractory or black glass panels are required to operate the fireplace. The panel choices are Chicago brick, herringbone, ledgestone, or black glass, with traditional or birch logs. A fan kit, a full-function remote, a top light, an ember-bed light, and a safety barrier screen come standard. A one-piece black rectangle surround is optional.
What can the Bellingham 38 remote do?
The included Proflame 2 remote turns the fireplace on and off and can act as a room thermostat. It offers six flame heights, six fan speeds, six top-light levels, and a split-flow setting that switches the secondary burner on or off. Its Smart thermostat mode lowers the flame automatically as the room reaches your set temperature, and a wall-mount transmitter is available as an option.
Can the Bellingham 38 go in a bedroom or a mobile home?
Yes to both, within limits. The manual says the fireplace may be installed in a bedroom. It also allows installation in an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home (USA only) or mobile home where local codes don't prohibit it; the manual doesn't call for a separate mobile-home kit, so confirm local requirements with your installer.
