Who It's For

Some rooms have no fireplace and no wall worth opening up for one: a cabin, a three-season room, a basement bedroom. You need a fire that stands on its own and heats a small space well. If that is your room, the Kozy Heat Oakport is the compact gas stove built for it. A built-in fireplace means construction; this one sits on legs in the room you already have.

What Makes It Special

The Oakport is a freestanding stove on a leg base, with a screen front included and an on/off switch right on top. A stove sends heat out from every side, so a small unit makes a cabin or a den comfortable.

Choose the electronic-ignition model, which lights only when you turn it on, or the standing-pilot model, which runs with no electricity, so the fire keeps heating through a power outage.

It is approved for bedroom installs, and prairie or arched prairie overlays dress up the front.

Possible Downsides

If you want real fire and real heat in a small room without building a fireplace, the Oakport is the right decision. The cabin is warm before the coffee is ready.

Choose a prairie or arched prairie design overlay, black glass firebox panels, and an optional fan, remote, wall switch, or thermostat.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much of my home can the Kozy Heat Oakport gas stove heat?

The Oakport is rated to heat about 600–1,250 sq ft, so it suits a cabin, a den, a bedroom, or another small room. It burns up to 24,500 BTU/h on natural gas or propane. The electronic-ignition OAK-18-L turns down to 12,500 BTU/h on either fuel, while the standing-pilot OAK-18-MV turns down to 15,500 BTU/h on natural gas and 19,000 BTU/h on propane, and the manual approves both for bedrooms.

Will the Oakport heat during a power outage?

Yes, both versions can, though neither runs its fan without power. The millivolt OAK-18-MV lights with a push-button piezo igniter and doesn't need 110–120-volt power at all. The OAK-18-L normally runs on 120 volts, and its 6-volt battery pack (batteries not included) runs the burner only during an outage. Kozy Heat says to install those backup batteries only when the power is out, not to leave them in.

Does the Oakport come with a remote and a fan?

The electronic-ignition OAK-18-L comes with a Komfort 8K1 remote that works as a room thermostat and has five flame levels, a shut-off timer, and a child lock. The manual's parts list calls the fan kit standard on the OAK-18-L, but the brochure lists the Oakport's fan as optional, so confirm with the dealer whether a fan is in the box. The standing-pilot OAK-18-MV uses an on/off rocker switch at the rear of the stove, with a 75 CFM fan, remotes, wall switches, and thermostats offered as options.

How is the Oakport vented?

The Oakport is a direct-vent stove that uses 4″ x 6-5/8″ co-axial pipe, terminated through the roof or a wall. Straight up, the vent can be 3 to 50 feet. To go out a wall, the pipe first has to rise at least 24″, after which the horizontal run can be 6″ to 48″; with a 25-foot rise it can run 25 feet horizontally, with no more than five 90° elbows. Flexible co-axial pipe isn't approved for vertical terminations.

How close to the walls and ceiling can the Oakport sit?

The Oakport's top corners need just 1″ from a side wall and 5″ from the back wall, and the top of the stove needs 37-1/4″ to the ceiling. With horizontal venting, keep 3-1/8″ between the top of the pipe and the ceiling. It must sit on a level surface, directly on wood or a noncombustible floor, or on a metal or wood panel covering its full width and depth if the floor is carpet, tile, or another combustible.

Can the Oakport run on propane?

Yes, with a conversion kit that's sold separately, because the stove ships set up for natural gas: LCK-OP18L-D for the electronic-ignition OAK-18-L or OCK-S54A for the standing-pilot OAK-18-MV. The OAK-18-L's conversion also uses a propane valve step motor (DEX-SMLP). It keeps the full 24,500 BTU/h maximum on propane.

Can I put the Oakport in a mobile home?

Yes, where local codes allow. The manual approves it for an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home (an approval marked USA only) or mobile home. The same floor rule applies as anywhere else: wood or a noncombustible surface, or a full-size metal or wood panel over carpet or tile.

What does the Oakport come with, and what can I add?

The Oakport comes with its safety screen front and a six-piece log set, so no front or media purchase is required. A prairie or arched prairie overlay can go over the screen, and black glass firebox panels are optional.

Can the Oakport go on a covered porch or patio?

Yes, the manual covers an outdoor covered installation, where the stove is protected from direct precipitation and operation is approved from 40°F to 110°F. The install can't interrupt the building's insulated envelope and weatherproof membrane, wiring has to meet the outdoor requirements of NFPA 70, and all the normal clearances still apply. Kozy Heat recommends a black painted safety barrier outdoors, since plated or patina finishes are prone to oxidation and discoloration.
