Who It's For
A big fireplace in a small room cooks you out of it, and you end up running it for a few minutes at a time. You need a fire sized for a bedroom or a den, one you can leave on all evening. If that is the room, the Kozy Heat SP34 is the gentlest heater in the Kozy lineup. A bigger unit means cycling it on and off; this one can just stay on.
What Makes It Special
The SP34 has the lowest output of any Kozy Heat gas fireplace, sized for a bedroom, a den, or a small family room. The log set and the safety screen come included, so nothing else is required to finish it.
Choose the electronic-ignition model, which lights only when you turn it on and includes a remote and a fan, or the standing-pilot model, which runs with no electricity, so it keeps heating through a power outage.
It is approved for bedroom installs.
Possible Downsides
- Fan and remote depend on the version. The electronic-ignition model includes both; the standing-pilot model includes neither.
- It is not sized for a large room. For more heat in the same style, see the SP41.
- The standing-pilot model burns a small flame around the clock unless you shut it off for the season.
If you want a fire you can leave on all evening in a smaller room, the SP34 is the right decision. The bedroom becomes the place you read by the fire on winter nights.
Choose a prairie or arched prairie design overlay, black glass firebox panels, a finish trim kit, and, for the standing-pilot model, a fan, remote, wall switch, or thermostat.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of my home can the Kozy Heat SP34 heat?
The SP34 is rated to heat about 500–1,050 sq ft, a good size for a bedroom, a den, or a small family room. It burns up to 20,500 BTU/h on natural gas or propane and turns down to 14,000 BTU/h on natural gas and 15,000 BTU/h on propane. Kozy Heat lists its EnerGuide (P.4) efficiency at 74.57% on natural gas and 74.36% on propane, and the manual approves it for bedroom installs.
What comes with the SP34, and what do I have to buy separately?
Beyond the vent pipe and gas line, nothing else is required: The six-piece log set and the standard safety screen come with it, and the screen ships preinstalled. Everything else is optional—a prairie or arched prairie overlay that clips over the screen, black glass firebox panels, and an exterior finish trim kit that hides the edge of facing material that butts up to the unit. The upper hood and the provided vent heat shield both have to be installed.
Does the SP34 come with a remote and a fan?
That depends on which version you order. The electronic-ignition SP34-L comes with a Proflame 2 remote that works as a thermostat and adjusts six flame levels and six fan speeds, and its fan kit is standard. The standing-pilot SP34-MV runs from an on/off rocker switch and a HI/LO knob on the gas valve, and its 75 CFM fan, remotes, wall switches, and thermostats are all optional add-ons.
Will the SP34 keep heating during a power outage?
Yes, both versions can run without household power, but the fan stops either way. The millivolt SP34-MV needs no 120-volt supply at all; only the optional fan plugs in. The SP34-L normally runs on 120 volts, and with four AA batteries in its backup pack the burner and flame-height adjustment keep working during an outage while the fan and accent light don't.
How is the SP34 vented?
The SP34 is a direct-vent fireplace that uses 4″ x 6-5/8″ co-axial pipe, terminated either through the roof or through a wall. A vertical run can be 3 to 50 feet. Straight off the top with no rise, the horizontal run can reach 48″; with a 25-foot rise it can reach 25 feet, for 50 feet of total vent and no more than five 90° elbows. Kozy Heat's #700-2 flexible kit is also approved for horizontal terminations.
Can the SP34 vent through an existing chimney?
Yes, with an approved conversion kit. It can run a 4″ aluminum flex liner up an existing Class A metal or masonry chimney with at least a 7″ inside diameter, or use a co-axial to co-linear adapter with 3″ x 3″ flex pipe, and either liner must be 10 to 50 feet long. Have the chimney inspected first, and it can't share a flue with a wood-burning appliance.
Can the SP34 run on propane?
Yes, but it's built for natural gas at the factory, so propane takes a certified conversion kit: LCK-SP34L-S30 for the electronic-ignition SP34-L or OCK-S55A for the standing-pilot SP34-MV. The SP34-L also needs the propane valve stepper motor (700-503-1), which is sold separately. On propane it keeps the same 20,500 BTU/h maximum input, with a 15,000 BTU/h minimum.
Can the SP34 be installed in a mobile or manufactured home?
Yes, where local codes allow it. The manual approves it for an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home (an approval it marks as USA only) or mobile home. It has to sit on a level surface, directly on wood or a noncombustible surface; on carpet, tile, or vinyl it needs a metal or wood panel under its full width and depth.
What clearances does the SP34 need for framing, a mantel, or a TV above it?
The enclosure needs to be at least 42″ tall, 34-1/2″ wide, and 14″ deep, with 0″ clearance at the standoffs, 1/4″ at the corners, 36″ in front, and 4-1/2″ to a side wall. A combustible 3/4″ trim can start 33-1/2″ above the enclosure floor and a 6″ mantel at 37″, adding 1″ of depth for each extra 1″ of height. The manual gives no TV clearance; it recommends a mantel to deflect heat and leaves TV placement to the homeowner. No hearth or floor protection is required in front.
