Who It's For
In an open floor plan, the fireplace is the one thing that tells the living area where it begins. A small one gets lost, and a tall square one blocks the sightlines. You need a traditional fire that is wide, low, and strong enough to warm a big shared space. The Kozy Heat Bellingham 44 is that fireplace. A smaller unit warms the couch; this one reaches the kitchen.
What Makes It Special
More than 44 inches of landscape glass frames a traditional or birch log fire, with a wide turndown range: low enough for a quiet glow on a fall evening, high enough for an open main floor in a cold snap.
Two fans, a top light, an ember-bed light, an inside-fit safety screen, and a full-function remote all come standard.
An optional heat-management kit routes warm air out through grilles, which Kozy Heat says lets you hang a TV above the fireplace, and optional heat transfer kits carry warmth to another room.
Possible Downsides
- Firebox panels are a separate, required choice.
- At 63% (EnerGuide), it turns less of its gas into room heat than the smaller Kozy fireplaces; if efficiency comes first, look at the Bayport 41.
- It ships set up for natural gas. Running it on propane takes an add-on valve motor.
If you want a wide traditional fire that can warm an open floor plan, the Bellingham 44 is the right decision. The open plan finally has a center, and it is the warmest spot in the house.
Choose traditional or birch logs; Chicago brick, herringbone, ledgestone, or black glass firebox panels; a one-piece black rectangle surround; and optional heat-management and heat transfer kits.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of my home can the Kozy Heat Bellingham 44 heat?
The Bellingham 44 is sized for about 1,250–2,500 sq ft. The manual rates it at 49,500 Btu/h maximum and 18,500 Btu/h minimum input, the same on natural gas and propane. The brochure lists its EnerGuide (P.4) efficiency at 63.03% on natural gas and 63.50% on propane. Real-world coverage depends on your floor plan, insulation, and climate.
Will the Bellingham 44 work during a power outage?
Yes—the burner runs on a battery backup, but the fan and lights don't. Day to day it needs a 120-volt circuit that's always hot, and the control module takes four AA batteries (not included) as backup. On battery power the manual says it operates the burner only, so the fan, top light, and ember-bed light stay off until the power comes back.
How is the Bellingham 44 vented?
It's a direct vent fireplace that uses 5" x 8" co-axial pipe, and an approved reducer can take it down to 4" x 6-5/8". Vertical runs go from 3 ft to 50 ft, and horizontal installs allow up to 25 ft of rise plus 25 ft of horizontal run. The optional Kozy Power Vent handles horizontal terminations, and the manual also approves a chimney conversion that runs 4" aluminum flex pipe through an existing Class A or masonry chimney (it specifies a Class A metal chimney of at least 7" ID).
Can I run the Bellingham 44 on propane?
Yes, but it's built for natural gas, so propane needs the #LCK-BH44-SPB propane conversion kit, sold separately. Kozy Heat's option list shows this as a propane valve step motor kit. Converting before the fireplace is framed in is easier, since a later conversion means removing the control board. Maximum input stays at 49,500 Btu/h on propane.
Can I put a TV above the Bellingham 44, or send its heat to another room?
Yes to both, with planning. Kozy Heat's tests found TV surface temperatures stayed at or below 150°F with a 4-1/4" deep recess built above the fireplace, though the manual leaves TV placement to the homeowner. A vented cavity or optional Komfort Zone Kit cuts heat above the fireplace and allows combustible facing and lower mantel clearances. You can also add up to two heat transfer kits, interior or exterior, to move heat to another area of the home or directly outside.
What clearances and framing does the Bellingham 44 need?
The minimum rough opening is 57-5/8" wide, 46-1/4" high, and 22" deep, inside an enclosure at least 88" tall. Clearance to combustibles is 0" at the stand-offs, 2" at the corners, and 36" in front. In a standard install, 3/4" mantel trim can start 16" above the top finishing edge and a 6" deep mantel at 19-1/2", going 1" higher for each extra inch of depth. Floor protection in front isn't required.
What do I need to order with the Bellingham 44, and what's included?
A firebox panel set is a required choice—the manual says refractory or black glass panels are needed to operate the fireplace. Panels come in Chicago brick, herringbone, ledgestone, or black glass, and the log set can be traditional or birch. A fan kit, a full-function remote, a top light, an ember-bed light, and a safety barrier screen are standard. A one-piece black rectangle surround is optional.
What can the Bellingham 44 remote do?
The included Proflame 2 remote works as an on/off control and a room thermostat. It gives you six flame heights, six fan speeds, six top-light levels, and a split-flow button that turns the secondary burner on or off. In Smart thermostat mode it lowers the flame on its own as the room nears your set temperature, and a wall-mount transmitter is available.
Can the Bellingham 44 go in a bedroom or a mobile home?
Yes, within limits. The manual says it may be installed in a bedroom. It also permits installation in an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home (USA only) or mobile home where local codes don't prohibit it; the manual doesn't list a separate mobile-home kit, so check local requirements with your installer.
