Who It's For

The modern living room usually has two things competing for the same wall: the fireplace and the TV. You need a linear fire that fits under the screen without cooking it. If that is your wall, the Kozy Heat Callaway 50 is built for it. A traditional box takes the whole wall; this one shares it.

What Makes It Special

At about 14 inches tall and 50 inches long, the Callaway 50 has the proportions of a large TV, so the two sit naturally together on one wall. With the optional heat-management kit, Kozy Heat says the TV can hang safely above it and finish materials can run right to its edge.

The flames rise from crushed glass or lava rock, with logs, birch, rock, or a beach kit as optional accents. A top light, a black safety screen, and a remote are included, and the burner turns down to a low glow for a quiet evening.

It warms a large living room, and it is approved for bedroom installs.

Possible Downsides

If you want a modern fireplace and a TV on the same wall, the Callaway 50 is the right decision. Movie night comes with a fire.

Choose reflective midnight or reflective copper crushed glass or lava rock on the burner; crushed glass, lava rock, black sand, vermiculite, or black glass around the perimeter; traditional or birch logs, rock accents, or a beach accent kit; Chicago brick, ledgestone, or black glass firebox panels; a vintage bronze mission, gallery, one-piece, or four-piece black surround; and an optional fan and heat-management kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much of my home can the Kozy Heat Callaway 50 heat?

It's rated to warm about 900–1,800 sq ft. The burner runs up to 35,500 BTU/h on natural gas (35,000 on propane) and turns down to 18,500 BTU/h (18,000 on propane) for a lower, quieter fire. Kozy Heat lists its EnerGuide P.4 efficiency at 73.49% on natural gas and 72.74% on propane. Real results depend on your floor plan, insulation, and climate.

How is the Callaway 50 vented?

It's a direct vent fireplace built for 5-inch by 8-inch co-axial pipe, and it can be reduced to 4-inch by 6-5/8-inch pipe with an approved reducer. It can run straight up to as much as 50 feet, or out a wall with up to 20 feet of horizontal run when it first rises 24 inches. The optional Kozy Power Vent (#KPV) is a fan-powered system for horizontal terminations only. It can also be adapted into a sound existing chimney using a 4-inch flex liner (minimum 7-inch ID Class A or masonry chimney) or 3-inch co-linear liners (minimum 6 x 8-inch ID masonry or 7-inch ID Class A).

Can I mount a TV above the Callaway 50?

Yes, but plan the wall for it: The manual's TV guidance centers on a vented cavity or a Komfort Zone Kit, which let a 6-inch-deep mantel sit right at the top finishing edge and allow combustible wall finish up to 1 inch thick. In Kozy Heat's tests with either option, surface temperatures stayed at or below 150°F in a 4-1/4-inch-deep recess above the fireplace, and both need an enclosure at least 76 inches tall. Without them, a 6-inch mantel has to sit 21-1/2 inches above the top finishing edge, and the manual leaves the final TV location to the homeowner.

Will the Callaway 50 work during a power outage?

Yes, the burner will. It uses electronic ignition that normally runs on 120-volt power, and it has a backup pack that takes four AA batteries (not included) to keep the burner working when the power is out. The optional fan and other powered features don't run on battery backup, so you get the fire without the blower until the power comes back.

Can the Callaway 50 run on propane?

Yes, but it ships set up for natural gas and needs Kozy Heat's propane conversion kit (#LCK-CW50-SPB), installed by a qualified installer. The manual says it's easier to convert before the fireplace is framed in, since converting later means removing the control board. The order options also list a propane valve step motor.

What comes with the Callaway 50, and what do I have to order separately?

The safety barrier screen, top light kit, remote control, and the steel framing it needs are included. Burner media is a required separate purchase: reflective midnight or reflective copper crushed glass, or lava rock. Logs, accent kits, firebox panels, perimeter media, surrounds, and the fan kit are all optional.

Does the Callaway 50 have a blower, and can it send heat to other rooms?

A fan kit is optional, not included; it's a pair of 75 CFM fans with six speeds on the remote. For moving heat elsewhere, the Callaway 50 can take a Komfort Zone Kit, which sends heat out through plenums, or up to two heat transfer kits that duct heat to another interior space or directly outside. The fans have a five-minute start delay in thermostat mode so the firebox can warm up first.

Can the Callaway 50 go in a mobile or manufactured home?

Yes, where local codes allow it. The manual approves it for an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home (USA only) or a mobile home. It doesn't call for a separate mobile-home kit, so the standard installation rules apply, including a level floor strong enough to carry the fireplace and venting.

How big a framed opening does the Callaway 50 need, and where can it go?

Plan on a rough opening 64-1/2 inches wide, 44-1/2 inches tall, and 22 inches deep (26 inches deep with Metal-Fab pipe), with the included steel framing. A standard install needs at least 72 inches from the base of the fireplace to the ceiling and 3 inches from the side finishing edge to an adjacent wall. It's approved for bedrooms, and it can go in a covered outdoor space with the outdoor kit, sold separately, for use from 40°F to 110°F.
