Who It's For
A fireplace you run every evening should not feel like an expensive habit. You want the look of a traditional log fire and as much of the gas as possible turned into heat in your room. If you plan to use the fireplace as everyday heat for a living room, the Kozy Heat Bayport 41 is built for that. A less efficient unit makes the same flame and sends more of it outside; this one keeps more of it in the room.
What Makes It Special
It is rated 76 to 78% (EnerGuide), among the highest of any Kozy Heat fireplace, so most of the gas you pay for becomes heat in a living room and the space around it.
Choose the electronic-ignition model, which lights only when you turn it on and includes the fan, remote, and light kit, or the standing-pilot model, which runs with no electricity, so it keeps heating in a power outage. Both include a log set and the finishing trim.
Both are approved for bedroom installs.
Possible Downsides
- Fan and remote depend on the version. The electronic-ignition model includes both; the standing-pilot model includes neither.
- The front is a separate, required purchase.
- The standing-pilot model burns a small flame around the clock unless you shut it off for the season.
If you want a traditional fireplace you can run every night without second thoughts, the Bayport 41 is the right decision. The fireplace becomes the way the living room stays warm, not just the way it looks warm.
Choose an inside-fit black, black, antique copper overlay, or brushed stainless rectangular full, black prairie, or vintage bronze arched mission front; birch logs to replace the standard set; and black glass, black brick, or Canyon Creek firebox panels.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much heat does the Kozy Heat Bayport 41 put out?
The installation manual for the electronic-ignition Kozy Heat Bayport 41 (BAY-41-LE, July 2019) gives a maximum input rating of 28,500 BTU/h and a minimum of 21,500 BTU/h on natural gas or propane. Kozy Heat's 2021 brochure lists the electronic-ignition model at 30,000 BTU/h high and the millivolt model at 28,500 BTU/h, so check the rating plate on the unit you buy. It's sized for about 750–1,500 sq ft, depending on your home.
How efficient is the Bayport 41?
The brochure lists EnerGuide P.4 efficiency of 76.16% on natural gas and 76.77% on propane for both the electronic-ignition and millivolt models. It also gives steady-state efficiency of 77.96% (natural gas) and 78.04% (propane), and AFUE of 72.19% and 72.16%. When you compare fireplaces, compare the same rating type, since each one is measured differently.
What comes with each version of the Bayport 41?
There are two log versions: electronic (IPI) ignition and a millivolt standing pilot. The brochure lists a full-function remote, the fan, and an ember light kit as standard on the electronic-ignition log model, while the millivolt model's fan, remotes, wall switches, and thermostats are add-ons. Both come with a log set and the finishing trim kit, but every Bayport 41 needs a screen front, which is a required separate purchase.
Will the Bayport 41 keep heating during a power outage?
The millivolt (standing-pilot) version will, because it runs its fire without household electricity. The electronic-ignition version needs 120-volt power or its backup batteries, and on batteries only the burner runs; the fan and other optional components stop until the power returns.
What venting does the Bayport 41 need?
It's a direct-vent fireplace that uses 4-inch exhaust by 6-5/8-inch intake co-axial pipe off the top or rear, with vertical runs from 3 to 50 feet and up to 25 feet up plus 25 feet over with a maximum of four 90-degree elbows. Off the top, the shortest horizontal setup is a 9-inch rise, an elbow, and 6 to 18 inches of horizontal pipe; a 48-inch rise allows up to 20 feet horizontal. Straight out the rear, horizontal runs are 6 to 24 inches on natural gas or propane. It can also be adapted to an existing 7-inch Class A or 6x8-inch masonry chimney with flexible liner pipe.
Can the Bayport 41 run on propane?
Yes. The manual says it's built for natural gas, and converting to propane takes a certified kit sold separately (LCK-B41LE-S for the electronic-ignition model), while the option list also shows a propane valve step motor. Maximum input is the same on both fuels in the manual, and a qualified installer should finish the conversion before setting the logs.
Can the Bayport 41 go in a mobile or manufactured home?
Yes, where local codes don't prohibit it. The manual says it may be installed in an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home (USA only) or mobile home. It must burn only the gas type on its rating plate unless it's converted with a certified kit.
How close can a mantel be, and what framing does the Bayport 41 need?
A 6-inch-deep combustible mantel can start 9 inches above the top of the fireplace and 3/4-inch trim can start at 5-1/2 inches; with the inside-fit front (B41-RSF2), those drop to 5 inches and 1-1/2 inches. Deeper mantels go up 1 inch for every extra inch of depth. The framed opening is 41-3/8 inches wide, 44-1/2 inches high, and 17-1/2 inches deep, with at least 31 inches from the top of the fireplace to the ceiling and 1 inch to an adjacent sidewall.
Can the Bayport 41 be installed in a bedroom or outdoors?
Yes to both. The manual says it may be installed in a bedroom, and it's also approved for a covered outdoor space that's protected from direct precipitation, operating from 40°F to 110°F. Outdoors, the roof overhang must extend at least half the roofline height in front of and to each side of the fireplace, and Kozy Heat recommends a black painted safety barrier.
