Who It's For

Not every room needs a big heater. A bedroom, a basement family room, or a cabin wants a modest fire that is easy to live with. You need a fireplace sized for the room, in the look and the startup you prefer. If that is your room, the Kozy Heat Bayport 36 gives you three versions of one compact fireplace. An oversized unit can cook you out of a small room; this one is sized to it.

What Makes It Special

Pick the version that fits how you live. The standing-pilot log model runs with no electricity, so it keeps heating in a power outage. The electronic-ignition log model lights only when you turn it on and includes the fan, remote, and ember-bed light. The glass model swaps the logs for crushed glass or crystals over black enamel panels.

Every version comes with the finishing trim, and the heat suits a bedroom, a den, or a family room.

All three are approved for bedroom installs.

Possible Downsides

If you want a smaller fireplace that fits the room and your style, the Bayport 36 is the right decision. The spare room becomes the coziest room in the house.

Choose an inside-fit black, black, antique copper overlay, or brushed stainless rectangular full, black prairie, or vintage bronze arched mission front; birch logs to replace the standard set; black glass, black brick, or Canyon Creek firebox panels; and, for the glass model, reflective midnight or copper crushed glass, seabreeze, black, amber, or glacier crystals, and a beach accent kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much heat does the Kozy Heat Bayport 36 put out, and how efficient is it?

The Kozy Heat Bayport 36 has a maximum input rating of 26,500 BTU/h on either natural gas or propane, and it's sized for about 650–1,350 sq ft. The brochure lists EnerGuide P.4 efficiency of 66.61% on natural gas and 71.09% on propane for the electronic-ignition model, and 65.52% and 70.12% for the millivolt model. It's a compact unit, better suited to a den, basement family room, or cabin than a large open great room.

What's the difference between the three versions of the Bayport 36?

You can order traditional logs with a millivolt standing pilot, traditional logs with electronic (IPI) ignition, or a contemporary glass-media model with electronic ignition. The brochure says the IPI models come with a full-function remote, and the IPI log model also includes the fan and an ember light kit. The glass model gets black enamel panels and an accent light, but its glass media is a required separate purchase and the fan is optional. The millivolt model includes neither fan nor remote, though both are available as add-ons.

Does the Bayport 36 work during a power outage?

It depends on the version. The millivolt (standing-pilot) model doesn't need house power at all, so it keeps making heat when the power is out. The electronic-ignition models need 120-volt power or their backup batteries, and on battery backup only the burner runs—optional components like the fan won't. The fan itself is wired to 110–120-volt power on every version, so it stops in an outage.

What venting does the Bayport 36 need?

It's a direct-vent fireplace that uses 4-inch exhaust by 6-5/8-inch intake co-axial pipe, venting from either the top or the rear. Vertical runs go from 3 to 50 feet, combination runs can reach 25 feet up plus 25 feet over with up to five 90-degree elbows, and rear-vent horizontal runs are limited to 48 inches on natural gas but only 12 inches on propane. It can also be adapted to an existing chimney with 4-inch flex in a 7-inch Class A chimney, or 3x3-inch co-linear flex in a 6x8-inch masonry or 7-inch Class A chimney. Termination clearances differ slightly by country—for example, 9 inches from an openable window or door in the US versus 12 inches in Canada.

Can the Bayport 36 run on propane?

Yes, but it's built for natural gas, so propane requires a certified conversion kit that the manual lists as sold separately—LCK-B36LE-S for the electronic-ignition model and OCK-S53A for the millivolt model. The option list also shows a propane valve step motor for the electronic-ignition versions. Maximum input is the same 26,500 Btu/h on propane, and the conversion should be done by a qualified installer before the logs go in.

Can the Bayport 36 be installed in a mobile or manufactured home?

Yes, where local codes allow it. The manual says it may be installed in an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured home (USA only) or mobile home. It must burn only the gas type on its rating plate unless it's converted with a certified kit.

How close can a mantel be, and what framing does the Bayport 36 need?

A 6-inch-deep combustible mantel can start 8 inches above the top of the fireplace and 3/4-inch trim can start at 4-1/2 inches; with the inside-fit front (B36-RSF2), those drop to 5 inches and 1-1/2 inches. Deeper mantels go up 1 inch for every extra inch of depth. The rough opening is 36-1/4 inches wide, 42 inches high, and 15-7/8 inches deep, with at least 30 inches from the top of the fireplace to the ceiling and 3/4 inch to an adjacent sidewall.

Do I need to buy a front for the Bayport 36?

Yes. The brochure lists the screen front as required on every version, while the finishing trim kit comes standard. Your choices are the black inside-fit front, a full rectangular front in black, antique copper overlay, or brushed stainless, a black prairie front, or a vintage bronze arched mission front. The front is also the barrier that guards against burns from the hot glass, so it must go back on before the fireplace runs.

Can the Bayport 36 be installed outdoors?

Yes, in a covered outdoor space that protects it from direct rain and snow. The manual approves operation from 40°F to 110°F, and the roof overhang must extend at least half the roofline height in front of and to each side of the fireplace. Kozy Heat recommends black painted safety barriers outdoors, since plated or patina finishes tend to oxidize.
