Who It's For

An open fireplace looks inviting, but most of its heat goes straight up the chimney, and the room cools off the minute the fire dies down. You need the fire sealed behind glass so the heat stays in the house. If your fireplace is on the smaller side and you want to heat a cottage, a main floor, or an open living area of up to 1,500 square feet with wood, the Vista Insert is the one built for that opening. Stay with the open fireplace and you keep feeding a fire that warms the chimney more than the room.

What Makes It Special

The Vista slides into the fireplace you have and turns it into a closed, controlled firebox. One lever sets the air, and the burn settles in for approx. 7–10 hours on a full load—load it before bed and there are coals to relight from in the morning.

A temperature-activated, variable-speed blower comes standard. It switches on as the insert warms up and pushes that heat out into the room instead of letting it sit in the firebox. Logs load side to side through the arched door, and an air-wash system keeps a clear view of the fire through the glass.

Possible Downsides

If you have a smaller fireplace and want it to heat the house instead of the chimney, the Vista Insert is the right decision. The fireplace you used to light for show becomes the one that keeps the main floor warm all evening.

The Vista Insert comes with your choice of door finish—Metallic Black, Brushed Nickel, or Nickel—and a regular or beveled oversized surround in Metallic Black.

The Pacific Energy Story

Pacific Energy Fireplace Products was founded in 1978 by Paul Erickson in Duncan, British Columbia. It's best known for steel and cast-iron wood stoves, many finished in porcelain enamel from its own plant, and it also builds wood fireplaces, gas fireplaces, and gas stoves. The same company makes Town & Country gas fireplaces, True North, and Elegant Electric. Sweden's NIBE group became the majority owner in 2022, and NIBE's 2023 annual report lists the company as wholly owned.
