Who It's For
Getting up to adjust the stove every hour gets old fast. You want midsize gas heat you can run from your seat. The Forge & Flame Stardance with electronic ignition, crafted with Vermont Castings, is for the main living room where the owner wants classic looks and modern control. A manual stove keeps you on your feet; this one keeps you comfortable.
What Makes It Special
The included touchscreen thermostat remote holds the temperature you set, and the Wi-Fi module adds app control.
Electronic ignition means no pilot flame between fires, and battery backup keeps it working during an outage. A variable-speed blower is built in to spread the heat.
A four-piece split oak log set on a ceramic burner sits behind operable doors, in classic black, majolica brown, bordeaux, or sand.
Possible Downsides
- The Wi-Fi module is a separate purchase.
- A warming shelf must be selected.
- Propane needs a conversion kit.
If you want a midsize gas stove you can run without leaving your seat, the Forge & Flame Stardance is the right decision. A tap on the remote, and the living room is warm before the popcorn is ready.
Choose classic black, majolica brown, bordeaux, or sand with a warming shelf, and add a propane conversion kit, vent paint, or the Wi-Fi module.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much space will the Forge & Flame Stardance gas stove heat?
Plan on 700–1,400 sq ft, which suits a main living room. On natural gas it runs from 20,000 to 28,000 BTU per hour, or 21,000 to 25,000 on propane, and the brochure lists 81% steady-state efficiency and 67% AFUE.
Does the Stardance keep working during a power outage?
Yes. Its IntelliFire Touch ignition has a battery backup that runs on four AA batteries, so you can still light the fire when the power is out. On battery power, you lose the fan, lights, and other features that need household current, and the manual says batteries are for emergencies only.
What can the Stardance remote do?
The included IFT-RC400 touchscreen remote turns the stove on and off and adjusts flame height, thermostat mode, the Cold Climate pilot, and the built-in variable-speed fan. For app control, add the separate Wi-Fi module. As a safety feature, the stove shuts itself off after 9 hours without a remote command.
Can I run the Stardance on propane?
Yes, but you'll need the propane conversion kit, because the stove runs only on the gas shown on its rating plate unless a certified kit is used. Without derating, it's certified up to 2,000 feet on natural gas and 4,500 feet on propane.
How is the Stardance vented?
It's a direct-vent stove that vents from the top, through an outside wall or up through the roof, using outside air for combustion. Horizontal setups need at least 24 inches of vertical rise before the first elbow and can run up to 20 feet out, and vertical setups must end 8 to 40 feet above the flue collar.
How close to the wall can the Stardance go, and can it sit in an alcove?
It needs just 4 inches to the back wall, measured from the rear skirt, and 4 inches at the sides. It's approved for a combustible alcove up to 48 inches deep, at least 72 inches high when the minimum vent kit is used. On carpet, set it on a metal or wood panel the full width and depth of the stove.
Can the Stardance go in a bedroom or a mobile home?
Yes to both, within limits. The manual approves it for bedroom installations in the US and Canada, and for permanently located manufactured homes (US only) or mobile homes where local codes don't prohibit it. It also calls for an inspection before use and at least once a year by a qualified service agency.
What finishes does the Stardance come in?
Choose classic black, majolica brown, bordeaux enamel, or sand, and pick a warming shelf, which is a required selection; shelves come in classic black, majolica brown, and bordeaux. Every finish has operable doors and a four-piece split oak log set on a ceramic burner, and gas vent paint is available in majolica brown and bordeaux.
The Vermont Castings Story
Vermont Castings was founded in 1975 by Duncan Syme, the designer, and his brother-in-law Murray Howell, the business partner, in Randolph, Vermont. Their first stove, the cast-iron Defiant, went on sale in 1976. The company has changed hands several times since 1990, and Hearth & Home Technologies has owned it since 2014. Since 2023, Vermont Castings stoves have been sold under the Forge & Flame name, still cast in Randolph.
