Who It's For
A big room deserves a big fire, and you should not have to walk over to adjust it. You want large-room gas heat that is easy to control. The Forge & Flame Radiance with electronic ignition, crafted with Vermont Castings, is for the open living space where the owner wants classic cast iron and modern convenience. An old-style stove needs a standing pilot and a walk across the room; this one does neither.
What Makes It Special
Electronic ignition lights only when you want heat, so no pilot burns between fires. A battery backup keeps it running in an outage.
A variable-speed blower is built in to move the warmth into the room. The included touchscreen thermostat remote gives you set-and-forget comfort; the Wi-Fi module adds app control.
Split oak logs over a ceramic burner, operable doors, and ceramic glass give it the classic look, in classic black, majolica brown, or bordeaux enamel.
Possible Downsides
- The Wi-Fi module is separate.
- A warming shelf must be selected.
- Propane requires a conversion kit.
If you want the biggest cast iron gas stove with easy, modern control, the Forge & Flame Radiance is the right decision. Set the temperature once, and the great room holds it all evening.
Choose classic black, majolica brown, or bordeaux with a matching warming shelf, and add a propane conversion kit, vent paint, or the Wi-Fi module.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much space does the Forge & Flame Radiance IFT heat?
The Forge & Flame Radiance IFT is rated for 950–1,900 sq ft, which makes it the largest cast iron gas stove in the lineup and a good fit for an open living space. It's crafted with Vermont Castings and has a maximum input of 38,000 BTU/h on natural gas or 36,000 BTU/h on propane.
Does the Radiance IFT work during a power outage?
Yes. The Radiance IFT's IntelliFire Touch ignition has a factory-installed battery pack that takes four AA batteries and switches over seamlessly when household power drops. On battery power the fan, lights, and other functions that need 110–120 volt power won't run, and the manual says batteries are for emergencies, not long-term use.
What controls come with the Radiance IFT, and can I run it from my phone?
A touchscreen thermostat remote is included, with flame height adjustment, fan control, and a thermostat mode, and the electronic ignition lights only when you want heat, so no pilot burns between fires. Adding the separate Wi-Fi module brings control through the IntelliFire app, which works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Can the Radiance IFT burn propane instead of natural gas?
Yes, with the propane conversion kit, since it ships for natural gas. On propane the Radiance IFT runs from 25,000 to 36,000 BTU/h input, compared with 25,000 to 38,000 BTU/h on natural gas, and it needs no derating up to 4,500 feet on propane or 2,000 feet on natural gas.
How does the Radiance IFT vent?
It's a top-vent direct vent stove with 4-inch and 6-5/8-inch collars, and the pipe must rise at least 24 inches off the top before the first elbow. A horizontal run can reach 20 feet with up to 40 feet of rise, and a vertical system ends 8 to 40 feet above the flue collar with no more than three 90° elbows.
How close to the walls can the Radiance IFT go, and does it fit an alcove?
The Radiance IFT needs 4 inches to the rear wall, 6 inches to a side wall, and 6 inches in a corner. It's approved for an alcove built of combustible materials up to 48 inches deep, and when you use the minimum vent kit the alcove must be at least 72 inches tall.
Can I put the Radiance IFT in a bedroom, a mobile home, or on carpet?
Yes to all three. It's approved for bedrooms in the US and Canada, and for aftermarket, permanently located manufactured (mobile) homes where local codes allow, a listing the manual marks USA only. It sits on any rigid floor such as hardwood, tile, or brick, and on carpet you add a metal or wooden panel covering the stove's full width and depth.
What finishes does the Radiance IFT come in?
Choose classic black, majolica brown enamel, or bordeaux enamel, plus a warming shelf in the same finish, which is a required selection. Behind its operable doors and ceramic glass sit split oak logs over a ceramic burner, and gas vent paint in majolica brown or bordeaux is available.
The Vermont Castings Story
Vermont Castings was founded in 1975 by Duncan Syme, the designer, and his brother-in-law Murray Howell, the business partner, in Randolph, Vermont. Their first stove, the cast-iron Defiant, went on sale in 1976. The company has changed hands several times since 1990, and Hearth & Home Technologies has owned it since 2014. Since 2023, Vermont Castings stoves have been sold under the Forge & Flame name, still cast in Randolph.
