Who It's For
Some wood fireplaces are built for great rooms and look oversized anywhere else. Others are so small the fire feels like a window into a box. You need a fireplace that fits a normal room and still gives you a real view of the flames. The Renaissance Uptown 600 is for the family room, the den, or the remodel where the fireplace should be the focal point without taking over the wall. Choose a tiny firebox and the fire is an accent; choose this one and it is the reason people sit down.
What Makes It Special
You get 584 square inches of fire to look at, framed by ultra-smooth refractory bricks made in steel molds.
Both the glass door and the firescreen are built in and glide on vertical rails with bearings and counterweights. The door also tilts forward for cleaning, and the handle comes off when you don’t need it.
A heat recovery system comes included, with two 8-inch outlet ducts and inlet and outlet grills, so warm air moves into the room instead of staying behind the glass. Renaissance lists the Uptown as qualified under the federal Burn Wise voluntary fireplace program, alongside the Rumford 1000 and 1500.
Possible Downsides
- A trim is required. Choose straight trim for heavier masonry or frame trim for tile and cement board.
- It is a wood fire. Wood in, ash out.
If you want a real wood fire with a generous view in a fireplace that fits the room, the Renaissance Uptown 600 is the right decision. The fire becomes the first thing guests notice and the last thing anyone wants to leave.
Choose straight or frame trim, then add long linear inlet and outlet grills, duct extensions, a masonry chimney adapter, or an outside air kit.

The Renaissance Story
Renaissance Fireplaces is the wood fireplace line of Industrial Chimney Company (ICC), of Saint-Jérôme, Quebec. ICC has made chimneys since 1991, and in 2008 it launched Renaissance with the Rumford 1000, a built-in take on the tall, shallow fireplace Count Rumford designed in the 1790s. Every Renaissance burns wood behind a glass door and a screen that slide up out of sight, and three of today's four models qualified at the cleaner Phase 2 level of EPA's voluntary fireplace program. ICC also makes RSF fireplaces.
