Who It's For
Long, linear fireplaces are almost always gas. If you want the wide, modern look and a fire that crackles, the choices get thin fast. You need a linear fireplace that burns real wood. The Renaissance Linear 50 is for the homeowner building or remodeling a contemporary room who won’t give up wood to get the look. Choose a gas linear and you get the shape without the fire; choose this one and you get both.
What Makes It Special
The fire runs 50 inches wide, wall to wall, with a refractory brick lining included and room for logs up to 24 inches.
The glass door and the screen are counterweighted and lift upward, disappearing into the facing above the fireplace. Close the door for a sealed fire with no heat loss up the chimney, or close only the screen to hear the crackle and pop.
Every Linear 50 comes with a heat recovery system: two 10-inch outlet ducts, five feet long, plus two inlet and two outlet grills, so the heat travels through the home instead of pooling in front of the glass.
Possible Downsides
- Refractory brick is the only lining. The vermiculite panels offered on the Rumfords are not available for the Linear 50.
- It is a wood fire. You bring wood in and take ash out.
If you want the long, modern look of a linear fireplace with a real wood fire, the Renaissance Linear 50 is the right decision. The fire stretches across the wall, and the whole room turns toward it.
Options include long linear intake and outlet grills, square grill vents for lower ceilings, extra duct, and an outside air kit.

The Renaissance Story
Renaissance Fireplaces is the wood fireplace line of Industrial Chimney Company (ICC), of Saint-Jérôme, Quebec. ICC has made chimneys since 1991, and in 2008 it launched Renaissance with the Rumford 1000, a built-in take on the tall, shallow fireplace Count Rumford designed in the 1790s. Every Renaissance burns wood behind a glass door and a screen that slide up out of sight, and three of today's four models qualified at the cleaner Phase 2 level of EPA's voluntary fireplace program. ICC also makes RSF fireplaces.
