Who It's For
Many gas fireplaces still wear a frame of grilles and vents that the rest of the room has to work around. You need a fireplace with nothing around the fire but your own finish. If you want a big, full fire as the main event in a living room, and you care how the wall around it looks, the TC42 is Town & Country’s flagship. Settle for a louvered unit and the hardware stays on display; choose this one and the wall is all stone, tile, and flame.
What Makes It Special
Town & Country says the TC42 introduced the clean-face category: no louvers, gaps, or visible controls, just glass framed by your finish. Behind it, full flames fill a firebox big enough to anchor the room.
It has the deepest menu in the lineup. Eight burners include the Split Log and Split Log Heritage sets that no other indoor Town & Country size offers, and nine panels run from handcrafted brick to porcelain enamel.
If a TV or artwork is going above it, the TC42 is the one model that takes Town & Country’s optional cool wall system, which channels heat to create a cool space directly above the fireplace.
Possible Downsides
- It’s certified as a decorative fireplace, not a heater; if warming the room is the goal, look at a heater-rated fireplace instead.
- The cool wall kit is an add-on, not included.
- The Split Log and Split Log Heritage burners need their own propane kits, sold separately.
If you want the biggest choice of fires behind the cleanest possible face, the TC42 is the right decision. The wall reads as stone and flame, and nobody asks where the vents went.
Choose the Country Home, Heartwood, Birchwood, Chalet II, Split Log, Split Log Heritage, Black Diamond, or Tranquility burner, then finish the firebox in Park Avenue, Manhattan, Aspen, Mount Vernon, or Madison brick, or black, coffee bean brown, titanium, or copper porcelain; andirons and the cool wall kit are optional.

The Town & Country Story
Town & Country Fireplaces is the luxury gas fireplace brand of Pacific Energy Fireplace Products Ltd., of Duncan, British Columbia. The name has been in use since 2002, and its first fireplaces introduced the clean-face look: edge-to-edge glass with no louvers or visible controls. Every Town & Country is a direct-vent gas fireplace, and every one is certified as a decorative appliance, not a heater. Sweden's NIBE Group has owned all of Pacific Energy since 2023.
