Who It's For
Plenty of rooms would be better with a fire but have no chimney, no gas line, and no appetite for construction. You want the look of a modern linear fireplace and a little extra warmth, without the project. If that is your room, the Kozy Heat Osseo linear electric plugs in and goes. Think of the heat as supplemental warmth for one room, not a furnace replacement. Electric is the better accent, gas the better heater, and this one is honest about which it is.
What Makes It Special
You set the mood: three flame colors (orange, blue, or a mix) with adjustable brightness and flame speed, and a 12-color ember bed that can hold one color, cycle through them, or switch off.
A two-stage heater with a blower takes the chill off a living room, bedroom, or office, and the timer shuts it off on its own. The black rectangle surround comes standard.
There is a slim model for walls that cannot give up much depth.
Possible Downsides
- It is supplemental heat for one room, not a primary heat source.
- Logs and lava rock are separate add-ons.
If you want a modern fire in a room that has never had one, without a construction project, the Osseo linear electric is the right decision. The room you used for nothing becomes the one with the fire.
Choose the standard or slim model; a finish trim kit; a traditional, driftwood, or slim log set; and lava rock media.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of a room can the Kozy Heat Osseo Linear Electric Fireplace heat?
It's meant as supplemental heat for one room, and Kozy Heat's figure is up to about 500 sq ft. The brochure rates both the standard and Slim versions at 5,000 BTU from a two-stage heater with a blower, and the Slim's manual lists the stages as 750 watts on low and 1,500 watts on high. The manual is clear that it isn't intended to be a primary heat source.
Does the Osseo Linear plug in, or does it have to be hardwired?
Either works on both versions: The brochure lists them as plug-in or hardwired at 120 volts. The Slim's manual rates it at 1,500 watts, ships it with a three-prong cord, and calls for a dedicated 15-amp (or larger) breaker with nothing else plugged into that circuit. Plug it straight into a wall outlet—never an extension cord or power strip—or have a qualified electrician remove the cord and wire it to the house circuit.
Can I run the flames without the heat on the Osseo Linear?
Yes. The heater button has an off setting (H0) that shuts off the heater and blower while the flame display keeps running. You can pick from three flame colors (orange, blue, or both), adjust brightness, and set the flame speed to one of three levels. The ember bed has eleven colors plus an auto-cycle mode, with four brightness levels and a pulsing setting.
What's the difference between the standard Osseo 45 Linear and the Osseo 45 Slim?
Depth is the big one: The standard Osseo 45 needs a framed opening 48-3/4 inches wide, 23 inches tall, and 12 inches deep, while the Slim's framing depth is just 5-7/8 inches. The standard model's viewing area is 16-3/8 by 45 inches, and the Slim's is 16-1/4 by 45-1/8 inches. For a Slim going into a 2x4 wall, the manual calls for the OSO45-TAK trim accessory kit. The Slim also skips the large crystals that come with the standard model.
How high does a mantel need to be above the Osseo Linear?
It depends on the version. For the standard Osseo 45, the brochure puts a 2-inch mantel 2-7/8 inches above the top of the viewing opening and the ceiling 7-7/8 inches above it. For the Slim, the manual measures from the top of the appliance front: A 2-inch mantel starts 3-1/2 inches up, deeper mantels gain 2 inches of depth for every inch they rise, and the ceiling must be at least 7-7/8 inches above. Either way, keep curtains, furniture, and bedding at least 36 inches from the front.
Can the Osseo Linear hang on a wall, or does it have to be built in?
The Slim can do either. It sets flush in a framed opening with the included nailing flanges, so facing material up to 5/8 inch thick runs to the trim around the glass, or it hangs on the wall from the bracket that ships fixed to its back, ideally screwed into studs and lifted by two people. For the 12-inch-deep standard Osseo 45, the brochure gives only framed-opening dimensions (48-3/4 by 23 by 12 inches), so check its own manual before planning a wall hang.
Will the Osseo Linear work during a power outage?
No. It runs entirely on 120-volt household power, and neither the manual nor the brochure lists a battery backup, so the flame effect, ember bed, and heater all go off in an outage. The coin battery (CR2025) only powers the remote.
What media, fronts, and log sets are available for the Osseo Linear?
Clear acrylic crystals and river rock come with it, and the standard model also gets large crystals. Optional media includes driftwood, traditional logs, lava rock, and a slim log set. The brochure lists an overlay front as included, with a black four-piece rectangle surround as an add-on, and the order form also offers a 3/4-inch finish trim kit.
Can the Osseo Linear go in a manufactured home or on a porch?
The Slim's manual says it meets HUD construction and safety standards for manufactured homes when it's installed according to its instructions. It's an indoor appliance only: The manual says not to use it outdoors and to pick a spot that isn't prone to moisture, and the warranty excludes damage from use on porches, in laundry rooms, or in other damp places. Plan on yearly cleaning of the vents and glass, since there are no user-serviceable parts inside.
